Instagram’s 2025 updates are all about giving you a safety net for testing content, better tools for deep-dive storytelling, and a broader global reach.

1. What are Trial Reels?

Trial Reels are Instagram’s zero-risk testing environment for your video content.

  • What It Is: A Reel that is initially distributed only to a small, non-follower audience to gather performance data. It never reaches your followers or your main profile grid unless you explicitly approve it.
  • How to Post a Trial Reel: When uploading a new Reel, look for a “Trial Reel” toggle or option in the final settings screen before you publish. Toggle it on and post as usual. It will appear in a special section (often near your drafts or insights) where you can track its performance.

  • How to Link Reels: When publishing a new Reel, look for the “Link a reel” option on the final sharing screen. You can select a previous Reel to link to. You can also go back to an existing Reel (tap the three dots …) and add a link to a newer post.
